This verbatim from Michael Regan:
President Donald Trump told supporters at a
campaign rally in Manchester, New Hampshire, Thursday evening that he would
"always uphold the Second Amendment" and suggested the construction
of new mental health facilities would help curb gun violence, The Hill
reports. "It's not the gun that pulls the trigger. It's the person
that pulls the trigger," Trump told the crowd. He suggested the past
closure of mental institutions led to an influx of sick individuals on the
streets, and proposed building new facilities to get those people help. While
the president has in recent days said he favors stronger background
checks to purchase firearms, he assured the crowd he would not allow new laws
to infringe on their access to guns, stating, "We will always uphold the
right to self-defense, and we will always uphold the Second
Amendment."
