Araceli King of Irving, Texas, was receiving robocalls from Time Warner. She asked for them to stop, but they didn't. After 153 robocalls, she filed a lawsuit; 74 of the calls occurred after the lawsuit was filed. The judge awarded her $223,000.
The company's "recurring theme" in its legal arguments was that it was
an unwitting victim of an unpredictable federal law that was not
intended to turn an innocuous call to a wrong number into large damages,
the judge said. The judge said any proactive business concerned about customer relations would have taken steps to stop the problem.
Obviously, Time Warner must have an Obama on its legal staff; it did not take responsibility for its actions and instead blamed someone else. As for me, I wish the judge had made the award $223 million; I'm sick and tired of robocalls.
