ISSA FUMBLES THE BALL

Lois Lerner returned to the national stage yesterday in a House hearing ballyhooed as being the instrument by which the country was going to get to the bottom of the IRS targeting scandal and... she in essence flipped Chairman Darrell Issa off by taking the Fifth Amendment as she had done before.   Issa was content to let it go by saying, "We're done with her," meaning, I presume, that the House is washing is hands of the whole investigation.

If her testimony wasn't that crucial in the first place, why recall her?  Why risk having her waving her middle finger at the committee as she did?  On the other hand, if her testimony could be valuable in the investigation, why not grant her some immunity and get the facts out?  Could it be that this was all just stage and theater designed to make us think the committee wants to get to the bottom of the matter when, in fact, it does not?

Once again in a major scandal and matter of interest to the nation, the Administration has torpedoed an investigation into wrongdoing, effectively stonewalling just like they have successfully done with Fast and Furious, Benghazi and a host of other matters.  One thing is certain: if we keep our mouths shut and let this pass, we're are to blame for once more failing our country and everything it once stood for.
